Lamictal - In April 2002 we had decided to wean Marisa from the phenobarbitol and put her on lamictal. She started off with taking 25 mgs in the morning and 25 mgs at night. Even though the medication wasn't controlling Marisa's seizures we noticed a considerable change in Marisa's attitude. She was alert, talkative, and active with this medication and even was a little too hyper at night!!! :( She began waking up between 2-4am and was talking so loud that she would wake the entire house. When we put Marisa back on the phenobarbitol we opted to leave her on the lamictal because it counteracted the sleepy effect that the phenobarbitol caused her. The neurologist decreased the nightly dose and the hyper ness at night ceased. We had to increase it again though, but didn't have any problems the second time with hyper ness. Marisa currently takes 50 mgs of lamictal tablets twice a day.
