Child Care Information

There will be two separate rooms for childcare on Friday and Saturday (one room for the AS children and one for the siblings). There will be no child care on Sunday. Volunteers will be in each room coordinating and organizing services and supports.

GUIDELINES

A great group of enthusiastic and caring people volunteer to provide free child care during the conference. However, they are not nurses or otherwise medically trained, and many are students. The staff in the child care rooms will be unable to perform nursing duties, such as trach care, oxygen administration, or using medical monitors or equipment. If your child will require any of these services during child care hours, you must keep your child with you. The staff will also not be able to administer emergency seizure medication – including Diastat and the VNS magnet. If your child should need this while in the childcare room, someone will call you or come and get you to come to the room. If Diastat is administered, you will need to stay with your child for 1 hour or take your child with you for 1 hour. Children requiring g-tube feedings must have a parent/guardian administer the feeding. The g-tube feeding may occur in the child care rooms.

The parent or guardian is responsible for providing adequate supplies for the child including all diapers, wipes, and feedings (i.e. bottles, babyfood, etc). Volunteers are able to bottle feed and feed baby food to children that eat orally. Children will be provided a snack.

The child care rooms have the right to refuse child care to any child with communicable conditions (fever, yellow or green running nose, unknown rashes, drainage from eyes/pink eye) or who otherwise creates a safety problem in the child care rooms.

Your child must be picked up promptly at the close of child care hours as to be respectful of the volunteers and their lunch break and ending times.

PROCEDURES

You and your child will be given a wristband with your names written on them. These wristbands are to be used to reunite you, your child, and your child’s belongings when they leave.

Children will not be allowed to enter the child care rooms without a wristband, and no one will be allowed to take a child from the child care rooms without having a child care worker verify a matching wristband.

You will receive your wristbands once you have read, understood, and signed the Waiver and Release of All Claims and Assumption of Risks form (provided at the conference). You will register and receive your armbands after you check in at the registration table.

Parent(s)/Guardian(s)/Family member(s) will wear one wristband and the child will also wear a wristband. Please label your child’s belongings and diaper bag prior to drop off.

When you bring your child to the child care rooms, you will be asked to sign them in at the door and provide what session(s) you will be attending and a cell phone number. When you pick up your child, you will need to sign your child out, and someone will verify that you have the matching wristband for that child.
